Real Rate of Return
The return on an investment after it has been adjusted for inflation.
 
Record Date
The date which determines the shareholders who are eligible to participate in a corporate income distribution.
 
Redemption Price
Also known as "bid price," this is the price at which mutual funds buy back their shares. It is usually the net asset value of the fund less any back-end sales charges.
 
Registered Representative
An employee of a brokerage house that has been licensed by the Securities and Exchange Commission. This requires passing a series of tests.
 
Risk
The potential to lose money, including principal, or not to make money on an investment.
 
Risk Tolerance
An investor's personal ability or willingness to endure declines in the prices of investments.
 
Russell 2000 Value Index
Comprises securities in the Russell 2000 Index with a less-than-average growth orientation. Companies in this index generally have low price-to-book and price-to-earnings ratios. As of 12/31/95, the index has a total market capitalization of $5,589 billion.
 
Russell 2000(r) Index
Measures the performance of the 2,000 smallest companies in the Russell 3000 Index, which represents approximately 8% of the total market capitalization of the Russell 3000 Index.
 
Russell 3000 Index - Technology
Measures the performance of those companies in the Russell 3000 Index that are classified as technology companies. This sector contains companies that serve the electronics and computer industries or that manufacture products based on the latest applied science.
 
Russell 3000(r) Index
Measures the performance of the 3,000 largest US companies based on total market capitalization, which represents approximately 98% of the investable US equity market.
